VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning)

Rosehill Secondary College offers VCAL at Years 11 and 12. VCAL is an intermediate and senior course that supports students in seeking employment through a tertiary pathway. The course consists of five subjects: Work Related Skills, Personal Development Skills, Numeracy, Literacy, and a VCE subject. Students will also engage in Nationally Recognised Training in their chosen vocation. Some examples of pathways include, Building and Construction, Hairdressing, Hospitality, Community Services, and Business. These qualifications are delivered at TAFE Colleges or Universities as VET (Vocational Education and Training) courses. Students are required to attend a VET course one day per week.

VCAL is designed to prepare students for their chosen career pathways and teach them vital employability skills, team building skills, industry skills, and practical literacy and numeracy skills. The VET component is the commencement of a Nationally Recognised Qualification.

The VCAL program at Rosehill Secondary College offers authentic and practical learning.  Students engage in multiple projects throughout the year such as Primary School Partnerships, Industry Visits, Excursions and Work Placement. Learning outcomes for all subject are aligned to these learning focuses to build students capacity to develop workplace knowledge and practical skills.
