Kogakkan High School Visit 2011

Tears at the Airport
From 27th July to 7th August eleven students and three teachers from Kogakkan High School in Japan visited our school. Even though their stay was short, the Japanese students and their host students and buddies attended a number of excursions including Highpoint Shopping Centre, Southern Cross Grammar, the Victoria Market and the Melbourne Zoo. Both Rosehill and Kogakkan students missed each other already at the farewell party and the airport.  Students who hosted were Kira Prouse, Teigan Marks, Jasmine Bradbury, Madison Kazakovski, Chelsea Spiteri, Jade Simpson, Brandon Tripptree, Georgia Coules, James Schultz and Chloe McBain. A student who helped as a buddy was Jessica Moloney, Eden Mezzatesta, Amelia Sartori, Bridgette Wolny, Melissa Mai and Joel Prouse. I would like to thank all the families supported our exchange program.  I would also like to thank all the teachers particularly Mrs Smart and Mr Stranieri for their support.

Since 2004, Rosehill Secondary College has established a sister-school relationship with Kogakkan High School, a Shinto school, in Japan. The school is located in Ise city, in the centre of Japan, blessed with a mild climate and spectacular setting between mountains and the sea. Ise city is also famous for the most important Shinto shrine in Japan known as Jingu or “Ise Grand Shrine” which has two-thousand year history and serves as the centre of all shrines nationwide (Mie Prefectural Government). Jingu also has been held a position of special importance among Japanese.

Rosehill has had an ongoing and positive relationship with Kogakkan High School, including a visit to Rosehill by a group of students since 2002. Furthermore, in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009 Rosehill students visited Kogakkan High School, where we were shown very warm hospitality upon our arrival. We firmly believe that strong relationships with schools in other countries will provide wonderful opportunities for our language students and staff, as well as the wider school community.
