STEP application process during the period of school closures

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a new process and timeline has been put in place to apply for a position in the STEP program for 2021. At this stage, we cannot proceed with the testing date on May 21st, but will otherwise adhere to our regular process, albeit in a digital mode.

Please note that should schools reopen during Term 2, we will likely run the testing at a later date.

Firstly, if you wish to apply for a position in STEP for your child and have not yet registered your details with us to receive the application pack, please fill out the online form here or contact Maree Kelly at the College: kelly.maree.m@edumail.vic.gov.au.

To apply for STEP 2021, the process and timeline are as follows:

May 7 STEP application portfolios to be submitted digitally

Please email the completed portfolio to:  kelly.maree.m@edumail.vic.gov.au  If file sizes are excessive, you may need to send components in separate emails.

Along with other supporting evidence, ensure that you include in the folio:

·       The Student Application form (completed by the student, not parent).

·       NAPLAN results – Years 3 and 5.  Folios will not be considered without these.

·       The final Year 5 report from 2019 and most recent Interim report/s from 2020.

A $50 Application Fee must be paid at the time the folio is submitted.

May 7 Completed Confidential Student Reference to be returned electronically

It is the responsibility of the family to email the blank reference to the most appropriate teacher at your child’s primary school.  Please ask the selected teacher to complete the reference electronically in PDF format and email it directly back to Maree Kelly at the address above.  All teachers should be contactable during the school closure period via email or through the primary school office.

Please give primary teachers the following instructions re: completing the reference: “Open the Reference PDF in Acrobat.  You can use the “fill and sign” button (on the right side panel of your computer) to enable you to click on any area to type onto the form. This also allows you to sign and save the PDF.  Please email the completed reference to Maree Kelly at kelly.maree.m@edumail.vic.gov.au   by May 7th.

June 11 Provisional offers

Provisional offers of a STEP position will be made by emailing parents.

·       Note: Depending on the duration of school closures, we may ultimately test students at a later date.  Parents and students need to be aware that this could lead to the revocation of a place in STEP if test results did not support the original decision to offer a STEP position.

·       Students who are not initially offered a STEP position will be placed on a waiting list. Parents will be informed of this by email.

June 19 Accepting a place in STEP

Parents must confirm their acceptance of, or decision to decline, an offer by this date.  To do so, please contact Maree Kelly by email, or call the College office on 9337 2488.  Upon acceptance of a position, a further payment of $150 is required.  Details of how this payment should be made, (depending on the situation with school closures at that time), will be on the email offering your child a place.
