Principal's Report

Due to the ongoing level of community transmission of COVID-19 in Victoria, the Victorian Government has announced the current restrictions in place for metropolitan Melbourne will be strengthened and extended for a further 14 days until 11:59pm on Thursday 2nd September. This means remote learning will continue in metropolitan Melbourne until and including Thursday 2nd September.

Rosehill will continue to provide on-site supervision during this time for students and families that meet the eligibility criteria. Please refer to the compass post from 17th August for details.

We understand that this is a difficult time for many families, so we encourage you to support your children to maintain a routine for the next few weeks. Students should log in to the google MEET classes each day and each lesson. Reassure them that teachers understand the challenges faced at this time and will slow down if required. Students involved in the Tutor Learning Program are encouraged to continue to engage with their tutors who are present during google MEET sessions and are keen to provide additional support.

To our Year 12 students and families, I can assure you that we are working towards providing whatever support we can to assist during this time. VCAA are considering additional support for VCE and VCAL students. A Consideration of Educational Disadvantage (CED) process is being refined this week and will factor in the interruptions to student learning, and adjustments will be considered for both Unit 3 and Unit 4 results. The introduction of this process has caused the delay of results by a few days, to 16th December. When a new date for the GAT is finalised, it will be communicated.

Students in Year 7 and 8 will have received information via Compass regarding course selection for 2022. The EDVAL portal will be open on Friday 20th August until 3.00pm Wednesday 25th August.

The college has been fortunate to secure Andrew Fuller, Clinical Psychologist and Family Therapist on Thursday 26th August from 5.00-6.00pm. Please email Ms Kerry McKay by 11.59pm Sunday 22nd August, if you wish to attend this virtual presentation. The session is free of charge and will focus on how parents can support children during this time. More information attached in this newsletter.

Please access the many supports available from the list below and contact the college directly should you need to chat with a member of the Rosehill welfare team.

Year 12 VCAL students reflect on their community work

My name is Pamela and I am doing my volunteer work at my old primary school which is Keilor Heights Primary School.

The tasks that I complete every Friday include: assisting with the sports class, helping out with reading and writing (in Mr Knudsen’s class), sorting out the shelves in the library and attending the assembly with the whole school.

The teachers are really nice and friendly at Keilor Heights Primary School. They provide a learning environment that is safe and beneficial for all the students which enhances their learning. All of the teachers remember me and they always stop and ask me what I am doing and how am I finding VCAL this year.

I am very proud to say that I am learning a lot at my volunteer work and cannot wait to learn more. I really love interacting with all the students, but more importantly I am learning how hard the teachers work and how necessary an extra pair of hands is for them.

Andrew Fuller - Helping Students Learning

On Thursday 26th August, Rosehill Secondary College is proud to be hosting a session presented by renowned clinical psychologist, speaker and author, Andrew Fuller. Titled “Re-igniting children’s learning and getting their mojo back”
